Our story
— The beginnings
Amadeus was born from an encounter between music, affection and the conviction that every person has a place in the world. Its story begins with Amparo Arango Dávila, who opened the doors of her own home to accompany learning processes for people who found few opportunities to learn and participate. In music she found a language capable of bringing people closer, connecting them and making visible other ways of learning, expressing and relating.
What began as an experience around music grew with the people and families who came to Amadeus. Each pathway brought new questions and learning, and with them a way of accompanying people with intellectual disabilities took shape: recognizing their capacities and understanding them in relation to the families, institutions and communities they are part of.
— Three decades later
For more than three decades, in Cali, Amadeus has built and consolidated this knowledge from experience. From this path have emerged methodologies, programs and forms of accompaniment that today make it possible to connect people and environments to expand opportunities for development, autonomy, participation and inclusion.
when we recognize capacities, connect environments and build together, we expand the possibility of who we are
— Today
Today that knowledge is expressed in Inclusive Pathways, the AMAR Method, AMAR Classrooms and AMAR Companies, proposals that bring the experience built by Amadeus to different moments and environments of life.
Our story keeps growing with every person, family, institution and organization that joins it. Because after more than thirty years we still believe that when we recognize capacities, connect environments and build together, we expand the possibility of who we are.
This is how we understand the possibility of who we are
Our philosophy
At Amadeus we believe that each person has their own way of being, learning, relating and participating in the world, and that their possibilities are also built in relation to the people and environments around them. That is why we accompany from the encounter with the other: we welcome their uniqueness, recognize their capacities and let ourselves be transformed by difference. Affection, listening and respect are part of the way we build the bonds that make it possible to learn, grow and participate. We believe in an autonomy that is built in relation to others. We all need support, bonds and communities to develop our capacities. Accompanying therefore means building with each person the conditions that allow them to make decisions, participate and inhabit their relationships with dignity. We also believe that inclusion is built in community. That is why our gaze extends to families, educational institutions, companies and the other environments that are part of each pathway. We connect them so they can recognize their own capacities and become places where each person finds real opportunities to belong and participate. This is how we understand the possibility of who we are: recognizing what exists in each person and in each community, and building together the relationships and environments that allow it to unfold.
